Stuart Church Usability consultant | |
Stuart Church is a user experience consultant based in Bristol, U.K. He has worked on a wide variety of usability, accessibility and information architecture projects for clients such as JISC, The University of Bristol, Microsoft, BOC, Bayer, Lexus, The University of Cambridge, The Tribal Group, Process Management International, the Office for Fair Access, the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority, Futurelab and Becta. In 2005, he helped to set up and organise the Cambridge Usability Group, before relocating to Bristol. In addition to his consultancy work, Stuart teaches user-centred design on the Diploma in Web Design and Development course at Birkbeck College, University of London. He is also a member of the Usability Professionals Association. In his previous life, Stuart was a lecturer and research fellow in Animal Behaviour, Visual Ecology and Biostatistics at the Universities of Bristol and Southampton. He has a degree in Zoology from the University of Oxford and a PhD in Animal Behaviour from the University of Southampton. Andrew Gordon is Director of jobs.ac.uk. With over 150, 000 registered users and 435,000 visitors per month, jobs.ac.uk is the UK's leading website for jobs in research, science, academic and related professions. Andrew worked in a number of general management roles before joining the Army. After leaving HM Forces, Andrew developed his interest in the management of people with a degree in Psychology and a spell as an HR professional for Ford UK. With experience of recruitment practices in both the public and private sectors, Andrew helped launch jobs.ac.uk in 1998. He went onto launch a number of other jobs websites via his own management consultancy before returning to jobs.ac.uk as permanent Director in 2004. Richard is responsible for Enhance Media’s research services including NORAS which has surveyed over 37,000 online job seekers from 27 job boards in 2006. He is also responsible for RIO, a joint research venture with the REC looking at users of recruitment consultants websites, as well as all bespoke online recruitment research projects. Prior to joining Enhance Media Richard worked at NOP, Barclays and Reed Business Information. Richard has managed a wide variety of research projects including; product development and evaluation, customer satisfaction, readership, website usability and over 200 online surveys. Richard is a full member of the Market Research Society has a degree in Mathematics and Statistics, an MRS Diploma and a CIM Advanced Certificate. Steve is one of the three investing founders of work – the group that comprises Work Communications, RCC HR, Armstrong Craven and Work Resourcing. He is also one of the company's most active consultants, handling clients in sectors as diverse as manufacturing, publishing, marketing and education. Steve has over 25 years' experience in the communications sector, having started his career in marketing (with TI Group) before working with two of the largest and most successful recruitment advertising agencies in the UK. He is a regular commentator on industry issues and an experienced assessor of creative standards and employer branding, having chaired or judged on all of the sector’s major ad awards in recent years. Dr Emma Parry is a Research Fellow in the Human Resource Research Centre (HRRC) at Cranfield School of Management. Her research interests include recruitment and selection, particularly the use of the internet for recruitment and selection, the use of technology in HR, age discrimination at work and international HRM. Emma earned her MSc and PhD in Applied (Occupational) Psychology from Cranfield University in 1996 and 2001 respectively. Emma worked as a consultant to the human resources department of a large retail chain before joining the HRRC in April 2002. Emma is currently responsible for the Recruitment Confidence Index, a quarterly survey of UK recruitment trends, and is also responsible for Cranet, a comparative survey of HRM policies and practices in around 40 countries worldwide. Emma has been also involved in a wide range of research projects in both the public and private sector, including a large scale human resources and training needs survey for the UK National Health Service and the CIPD commissioned project regarding ‘HR and technology’. At the conference Emma will present: 'Success factors - how to make your e-recruitment strategy work'. A web based approach to promoting the University of Bristol’s research jobs Eddie Procter, Recruitment Manager at the University of Bristol, is a CIPD Graduate member with 12 years HR/ personnel management experience, including 5 years at the University. Currently responsible for the operational management of a recruitment function dealing with approximately 700 vacancies and 20,000 applicants per year and the strategic development of all recruitment and selection activities across the University. "People are increasingly using the web for finding all sorts of information, including searching for jobs. To help ensure that it remains able to attract the best candidates for research vacancies, the University of Bristol has moved away from print advertising and developed a recruitment advertising strategy that optimises the latest developments in web based recruitment. A dedicated web site, finding the answers, has been set up with details about research jobs and what Bristol can offer researchers. An on-going campaign uses targeted web sites and search engines to drive people to the site, with performance of the different elements of the campaign reviewed and adjusted on a six monthly basis. Candidates can also register their details and be sent e-mailed updates when a vacancy that suits their requirements arises." Pete Walker leads the Web development and consultancy team at the Institute for Learning and Research Technology with the University of Bristol. He is project manager for a number of corporate IT project and also heads the Bristol Online Survey (BOS) service. Pete has been with the ILRT since 2001. He has worked in IT since 1989 working for commercial Software Houses and Local Government." Pete has a BA in History/Politics and an MSc in Information Technology.
